Vanguard reports that One Mr. Uche Uzogara has been remanded in prison custody following reports that he molested his 11-year-old daughter.
The man who was reported by his wife, Blessing Akarayere, was remanded by a Gudu Upper area court in Abuja, the federal capital territory on Tuesday, May 10.
According to the presiding officer, Alhaji Umar Kagarko, the defendant should remain with the police while the matter shall resume hearing on July 25. The defendant, Uzogora, pleaded ‘not guilty’ to the one-count charge of raping a minor.
Urom Otu, the prosecuting counsel, told the court that the mother of the girl reported her husband at the Apo police station on May 2.
He informed that the wife of the suspect was asked to take care of the victim when she traveled to her village in December 2015 to write an examination.
Otu added that the man had carnal knowledge of the minor without her consent and also threatened to kill the youngster if she reveals it.
